Fahrenheit Project Part 2 - Various artists - ( Ultimae | 2001 )
If you enjoy the part one, part one is even better! Compiled and mixed by Vincent Villuis and Sunbeam (aes Dana), it brings together elements from the four corners of the earth to create melodramatic and magical soundscapes that took me on a vision quest with the help of no shaman. Excellent traxs by vibrasphere followed by glaciales lacrimae composed by Khetzal (Tangerine dream docet); the final part made up of world electronic ambient orgasms and ending in the twilight zone with the help of Robert Richs somnium. A must for any serious ambient collection.

Artists from the USA, Sweden, Canada, France and the UK contribute to this truly global village-vibe downtempo CD on superlative French label Ultimae. Fusing trance with world music vibes and smooth electronic ambient, its an assault on the senses and the effect is mesmerising and transporting. Solar Fields Electric Fluid sets the tone wonderfully with its widescreen cinematic dub effects, Canadian trancemeisters Nuclear Ramjet create as unfolding tapestry of beauty with Folding Time, and Chi-ADs When The Effect Came is possibly the most divine, transporting fusion of trance, breakbeat and ambient you will ever hear. A perfect antidote to the harsh comedown of 21st century life. 9/10

Ultimae Records present the Fahrenheit Project Part 2 (Ultimae Records). Cat No: INRE 005. Out Now. Following on from the success of Part 1, Ultimae bring us the next compilation, in this series of rich ambient landscapes. The names of the artists featured may not mean much, but from the 1st listen, their music will impress all. This is a world away from the recent glut of major label cash orientated poorly selected chill-out compilations. Khetzals Glaciales Lacrimae represents the psychotropic acid-trance leanings of some ambient producers, with its kaleidoscope-like weird and wonderful feel. Folding Time by Nuclear Ramjet is a smooth wondrous beauty, which brings out hypnotic gorgeous keys and digital electronic bleep and all out to the fullest. Mystical Suns mysterious Waters Of Life combines emotionally tinted vocals, in-awe keys and gentle watery atmospherics. Robert Richs Somnium submerges strings over an at peace synth and dazzling keys. Wonderful!

Compiled by Vincent and Sunbeam, and mixed by Vincent, this is a soothing journey, the likes of which weve come to expect from French label Ultimae (formerly Infinium). Solar Fields, Vibrasphere (licensed from "Echo"), Khetzal, Montreal_s own Nuclear Ramjet, and then Aes Dana lead things off. Very nice! A Chai-A.D. tribal downtempo track follows. Hol Bauman then delivers a simple but very effective slow ethno groover, and the rest of the cd floats back down into the chill zone. Another quality journey from Ultimae!

Fahrenheit Project vol. 2 -- Wow -- another great collection from France, with an international cast and tripped out inner journey music of a highly rhythmic nature. Like the first Fahrenheit, there is an amazing flow to the pieces, from Robert Rich to Mystical Sun, Solar Fields, Cell, Hol Baumann, Chi-A.D & Vibrasphere.

The French Ultimae label, formerly known as Infinium Records already made a big impact with the first in the Fahrenheit series and the second, to spoil the surprise, is also blast. Although a tad less etnic, deep and spiritual than the average LiquidSoundDesign release, the 11 trax are well crafted compositions with head and tail. Don't expect any 9 minute perpetual synths, variation is king here despite the chill only tag. After the Somnium intro, Solar Fields kick off with an early Orb oriented soundtrack for spacetravelling (8/10). Vibrasphere contributes with a suberb atmospheric track with lossy acoustic guitars and a relaxing melody (9/10). Khetzal boosts the BPMs a tad and mixes melancholic moments with powerful dark synths in the best Asura/Jaia tradition. Impressive (9.5/10). The Nuclear Ramjet track is less of a rollercoaster ride but the used synths dripped in dub are decent enough (7.5/10). Aes Dana implements some etnic influences in a track which could be instantly on the great Asura debut (8.5/10). Psymaster Chi-AD takes easily the crown here with a marvellous blend between spacy Pink Floyd/Orb influences, wicked Gothic synths, backward (!) drum parts and weird dub samples (10/10). Hol Baumann comes up with an excellent Triphop/DnB chilltrack where etnic voices, sitars and funky synths give a nice effect (8/10). The haunting in-your-face Cell track breathes atmosphere and has a clever built-up ultimately trancending in an impressive wall of sound (9/10). Mystical Sun restores the peace with a more typical chilly soundscape guided by angel voices (7.5/10). Gentle dripping rain accompanies the quiet horizontal sounds of the last tune in which Robert Rich convincingly reproduces an empty and deserted location (8/10).
