The Story Unfolds | from Infinium to Ultimae

Vincent Villuis founded Infinium Records in October 1999 to release Asura’s first album, Code Eternity. A few months later, Sandrine Gryson joined him and collaborated on the release of the first Fahrenheit Project compilations. By summer 2001, we were asked to change our name to avoid confusion with an IT firm.

At that exact time, we were preparing for our first trip to Canada to perform at the Natura Festival. Armed with excitement for the journey and our Latin dictionary, we sat at a café in Montreal, sipping strong coffee as we brainstormed for a new name. One morning, we discovered the expression « ultimae terrae » the furthest grounds. It perfectly captured our geographical and textural take on sound, a desire to explore landscapes, to reach beyond what we knew, and to create music that felt like a place you could travel and evade to, feel, inhabit as well as just hear.

Looking back, so many moments come to mind: the anticipation before our first performance abroad, spending time with Magnus Birgersson while preparing the Reflective Frequencies album, and connecting with Gabriel, Zen (who would later create Altar Records), DJ Neerav, the Interchill team, Nuclear Ramjet, and many others.

DJ Christian Samsara unveils “AMMX001”, a new mix released on Ambient Matter, a side imprint of Indefinite Pitch, devoted to deep, immersive and hypnotic soundscapes.

Recorded live at UROCZYSKO Festival 2025, in Poland, during his performance on the Ambient Stage. The set unfolds like an audio garden, patiently cultivated.

Christian’s selection gently weaves botanical textures, mossy drones, organic resonances and slow-moving atmospheres, to shape a lush sound ecology inviting the listener to wander.
