Created in the isolation of the British countryside, Desert Sound Colony is inspired by faintly remembered sounds and almost forgotten memories. The thread running through the melodic, visceral tracks touch on a sense of melancholy present within us all.
Desert Sound Colony returns to Scissor & Thread with Cracks In My Soul, a captivating and intricate second EP that weaves a reverb rich journey, shimmering with hypnotic lullabies and sweeping, detail-orientated instrumentation. Their second release carefully blends the 90s nostalgia of northern British soul with pop like crescendos and the dance floor throb of ambient psychedelia. The EP title track opener leads straight into a deep looping guitar melody with otherworldly vocals and scattered beats. Howling At The Dark creates a shadowy escapade offering ambient psychedelic highs and chugging grooves. Whilst the blissful off kilter pop on Favourite Game immerses the listener into a sonic dream world of melodic electronica and velvety vocal work. Riverbed allows the EP to exit slowly with harmonious, droning riffs and ethereal murmurs that float. Cracks In My Soul is an intriguing dance. On their new EP Desert Sound Colony show that they are sonic landmark here to stay.
