Paskine is a musician composer and video maker, his work is focused on acoustic and visual projects, each of these elements are closely interrelated and influence each other. He creates graphic documents, short movies, videos, sound installations, performances, musical works and albums. His work is based on the will to succeed to distort a mechanism, to create an independant approach, repetitive and progressive, working toward a caused confusion. The idea is to work on undesired phenomena that might simply or unintentionally disrupt an information, either chronological, narrative, music or video, with the result of coincidence and accident. It aims at making an abstract information, bordering on a visible and immaterial work. These differents results are demonstrating an individual view, a subjective observation of a certain ambient instability.

The Shapes of Collapses is Paskine’s sophomore album. His debut album Nimod was released in 2014 by VoxxoV Records. His new album is composed of ten tracks (and two bonus tracks) mirroring the different shapes of collapses and explosions.

It is a die-hard work striving to reach sound abstraction as close as possible, and it sometimes achieves this goal. As a result, the melodies, the rhythmics, and the other repetitive elements constantly evolve until they collapse and drown in their own sonorous and abrasive streams. It only comes to mutation and the evolution of sounds.

Consequently, this album can be equated with a repetition of cycles freely inspired by natural disasters such as the melting of ice caps, volcanic eruptions, meteorological anomalies and so on. The sound elements are all exclusively electronic. The Shapes of Collapses is the result of several years of work and research. The latter were accomplished especially thanks to the gmem CNCM in Marseilles, who offered their invaluable help during a research residency in 2015 and 2016.

In his eponymous short story, Raymond F. Jones proposes a sort of allegory of the mechanism of creation. He shows that a new idea is the fruit of an unconscious and complex process of heterogeneous association of ideas, and that it is possible to create favorable conditions to stimulate this process. This method is even more efficient when one is capable of losing the « noise level » in its thoughts (automatism, archetypes, prejudices…), that gradually confines the mind to the comfort of existent and certainty, and thereby tends to restrict imagination and make the emergence of newness impossible.
This method is even more efficient when one is capable of losing the « noise level » in its thoughts (automatism, archetypes, prejudices…), that gradually confines the mind to the comfort of existent and certainty, and thereby tends to restrict imagination and make the emergence of newness impossible.

Noise Level is an attempt of sound illustration of this idea and, like in the short story, the library holds a central place. All compositions in this disc are built from real sounds recorded in ordinary libraries. After transformation, these heterogeneous sounds blend into a new environment, where a coffee machine might as well be a melodic instrument and the sounds of book handling, a percussion set. The creative gesture then represents a link between the concrete manifestations of reality and the imaginaries…

Strand is a work of brilliance, blurring the boundaries between exceptionally bleak drone and haunted minimal industrial, with mind-numbing static electricity buzzing behind your eyes, motorik rhythms made from detritus tumbling around in empty oil drums, and deep low end generator thrum vibrating under the sound of hanging scythes clanking like windchimes, these are the sparse & ominous sounds of the heavy woes carried through life, the ones nobody sees but everybody endures, when you catch a glimpse of Death in your reflection, Valles’ music helps you dismiss it and just focus on the insanity at hand.
