Luminous electro-contempo collaboration between New York master DJ Gregor Asch (aka DJ Olive) vs Jean-Paul Dessy (and his Musiques Nouvelles Ensemble) and David Núñez at violin.

A new musical travelogue mixing sensitive strings with the records and sounds subtly sculptured by Gregor Asch taking audience into their whirling love. Some magical moments vanish after the fact, but the thrill of listening to this untouched recording a few years later confirms that its delights are constantly renewed.

DJ Olive is an American disc jockey and turntablist. He is known for producing music generally in the electronic genre, with strong influences of dub, and free improvisation styles. He is widely credited with coining of the term ‘Illbient’ in 1994. He was a founding member of the immersionist group Lalalandia Entertainment Research Corporation in 1991. DJ Olive was a member of We, Lunchbox and Liminal. He has also collaborated with Kim Gordon, Ikue Mori, William Hooker, Zeena Parkins, Uri Caine, Medeski Martin & Wood, Dave Douglas, and various others.

Arc Angel

Five years after his last album release Luke Slater returns to Ostgut Ton with a new Planetary Assault Systems longplayer, titled Arc Angel.

After 22 light-years Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems keeps exploring space and time with different musical means. Staying true to the project’s initial mission statement, Slater comments on the new yet familiar musical direction: “For me music has to go forward. I’d feel I was cheating by sticking to tried and tested formulas. There’s a valid use for these, but this album has its own agenda.” With Arc Angel, Planetary Assault Systems departs to new musical frontiers by focussing on melody, but staying rooted in the purist values of Techno that Slater shaped over his decades- and generations-spanning career.

While the album title may sound like a reference to spiritual matters, it hints to rather secular affairs – piety is a relict of the past after all. Arc Angel is a postmodernist, non-comfortist Techno album first and foremost, catering as much for club contexts as for accessibility in new melodic terms.

Principe Del Norte

For an album with a royal pedigree right there in its title, Prins Thomas‘ Principe del Norte is a record with nothing to prove. The shortest of its nine untitled tracks is nearly eight minutes long, and three run to 13 minutes or more. You don’t get the sense the track lengths stem from any sort of desire to grandstand; it just looks like Thomas didn’t much feel like editing himself. The whole album runs more than an hour and a half, beats halting and restarting, synths drifting willy-nilly over muted basslines, and arrangements wandering free as clouds. It is a vision of ambient music in bathrobe and slippers, slurping milk straight from the carton at the all-night grocery; it is The Dude of ambient.

Active Agent of Sound II is an ambient / electronica double CD released by Berlin label Klangwirkstoff Records. A compilation of 20 international artists which are working in the field of practical music philosophy.

The tunings of the keynotes of this compositions are based on resonances which are coming from nature. For Example planettones (overtones from orbital cycles), molecular resonances (spectral analysis) or the Schumann Resonance (earth magnet field).

This should support the possibillity to come into harmony with the way of things by reaching an energetic resonance with nature. Planetary tuned music is like molecular tuned music composed in accordance with strict harmonical rules and is based on the natural laws which govern the “cosmic octave”.
