With RV8, the Osaka-based producer and musician Aoki Takamasa continues his longterm project that focuses on the modulation of rhythms and grooves, which began with his first EP Rhythm Variations in 2009, released as part three of the Unun-series. Besides his collaboration with Raster-Noton, he released records on several labels like Commmons, Progressive Form and Op.Disc, produced remixes for well-known musicians like Ryuichi Sakamoto or Yoshihiro Hanno and played performances at, for example, Elektra/Montreal and Club Transmediale/Berlin, all in all making him a renowned producer in Japan and beyond. Solens Arc is Kangding Ray‘s fourth album on Raster-Noton and the follow-up to his The Pentaki Slopes EP. Taking the arc as the purpose, the twelve songs of the record are arranged/ presented in the form of four variations, constructed from disintegrated melodic textures and dismantled beats.

It contains both the opening and closing tracks of <3 as well as their corresponding mutations. While 0.9 (Almost a Unit) was remixed by Esplendor Geométrico, Almost a Unit (0.9) got reworked by Peter van Hoesen.

In 2019, ASC decided it was time to return to the music that he grew up on. With a gentle nudge from Presha, the breakbeats were back in the mix and a slew of mid 90’s-inspired drum & bass ensued. The majority of the heavier break-oriented and edit-ladened were set aside for projects with Samurai, however, there were a grip of tracks that were more at home with the older atmospheric / intelligent styles of drum & bass from the mid 90’s.

Ryoji Ikeda is one of the most influential minimal electronic musicians and sound artists of our time. He also works as a cutting edge visual atist. He creates poetic art reducing the elements to extremes. These two tracks are taken from his first and third album from early/mid 90’s and are previously never released on vinyl. Space was newly mixed by Ryoji Ikeda for this EP.

Irakli was born in Georgia when the country was still a part of the Soviet Union. He moved to Cologne before ending up in Berlin a decade ago and has been an active and interesting voice in the electronic music and club landscape of the city. First as a DJ and producer behind the I/Y and Intergalactic Research Institute For Sound labels, but also as one of the minds behind the STAUB collective.
